About us

We make natural environmentally friendly products using our own goat’s milk, beeswax and honey from our own hives and medicinal plants from our own garden.

Mother and baby

How did this all start? We wanted a change from city life, so we moved to the West Coast, South Island, New Zealand. We eventually purchased our piece of paradise, a lifestyle block, in Blue Spur just outside of Hokitika. Our property is home for our many animals, goats, sheep, ducks, geese, chickens, bees and our dog Zeb (Kelpie).

I soon learnt how to hand milk goats, make cheese, make soap and keep bees. I started experimenting by adding honey and wax from my hives to my goat’s milk soap.  I started making solid hand lotion bars from my beeswax and experimented with other products using my beeswax and medicinal plants from my garden.

With the help of my goats and bees, I soon started crafting many different natural products and my business ‘Blue Spur Milk and Honey’ was born.

I now handcraft a range of rustic health and beauty products that encapsulate the ‘Untamed Natural Wilderness’ of the West Coast. I avoid plastics and only use environmentally friendly packaging. There is no point making beautiful natural products and then wrapping them in plastic. The charm of the West Coast is its raw natural beauty and we want to keep it that way.

I hand milk my goats and make my soaps using the cold process method. Handcrafting my soaps this way keeps all the good properties of the milk and oil, thus making a gentle moisturizing bar of soap/ shampoo.

When I make soaps, I include coconut oil because it is rich in antioxidants and has cleansing properties, castor oil because of its cleansing properties and its bubbles, great for oily and dry skin, almond oil for its rich conditioning lather. Hemp seed oil is rich in protein fiber and omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids that are said to expedite the body's healing and recovery processes.

My scent free soap has no added essential oils and includes calendula infused castor oil, ideal for people with dry skin, eczema or psoriasis.

Advantages of adding honey to soap:

We use honey from our hives. Our honey is raw, it has not been subject to processing methods such as pasteurization. Honey’s health properties are retained in its raw state.

Honey is a humectant and a natural bacterial fighting agent. It smooths and softens skin while reducing patches of rough flaky skin. Honey has hydrating properties, is extremely moisturizing and helps keep moisture locked in the skin. Using honey in soap will help skin and hair hold onto moisture and keeps the skin clean and clear.  ( Can you spot the queen?)

The advantages of using goat’s milk in soap

Goats milk contains alpha hydroxy acids. This helps remove dead skin cells. It is great for dry skin and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It removes the irritation from the skin surface and reveals fresh new skin.

Goat’s milk contains important minerals for the skin such as selenium, calcium, iron and sodium. Goat’s milk is high in vitamin A which is necessary to repair damaged skin tissue and maintain healthy skin. The fatty acids and hydrating agents lock moisture into the skin and help with dry skin. Our soaps are all natural and contain no palm oils, parabens or SLS.

Because our soaps are all natural with the extra moisture from our goats’ milk and honey and the extra goodness from hemp and argon oils, they are also able to be used as shampoo bars. Hemp oil is a natural repairer and is ideal for skin and hair. Our soaps are hand cut, so you may find a variance in size.
