Welcome to Notes from the Farm: a place where I share the changing seasons in my garden and life with our goats and bees. This is the inspiration behind our handmade products, and the simple pleasures of living close to nature.
These aren't just stories about soap. They're reflections on slowing down, making things with care, and finding beauty in everyday rituals.
I hope you'll make yourself a cup of tea, settle in for a few quiet minutes, and enjoy a little glimpse into life here at Blue Spur Milk and Honey.

The honest answer is simple. You deserve better than what mass production can give you.
I could speed things up. I could buy in a base and add a fragrance. I could push out ten times the soap in half the time. But that's not what you're looking for when you choose something handmade. It's not what I want to put my name on.
What slowing down actually gives you
There's a quiet kind of luck in living rurally. I get to watch the seasons change from my own kitchen window. I hear the goats calling out before I've even got my boots on. In the early morning and again at dusk, the tuis and bellbirds start up their chorus around the workshop. None of that is quaint scenery for its own sake. It's part of what goes into every bar.

When something is made slowly, in small batches, a few things happen for you.
You know what's actually in it. I measure, pour, cut and wrap every bar myself. Nothing slips in that I can't account for.
It's made for skin, not for shelf life. Commercial soap is often formulated to survive months in a warehouse. Mine is made to be gentle on you, because I'm making it for people I actually hear from.
Every batch is a little different, and that's a good thing. You might notice a different pattern on the soap one month. You might notice a deeper gold from that month's honey the next. It's proof a person made it, not a machine.
Why staying close to the ingredients matters to you, not just to me
I know the goats that give the milk in your soap. I know which hive the honey came from. I watch the calendula and comfrey come up through the garden each season. I choose what goes in a bar based on what will actually help your skin.
That closeness isn't just a nice story I tell. It's what lets me look after you properly.
I can adjust a recipe the moment I notice a batch of milk is richer. I can also wait longer if a herb needs more time to dry. That way, what reaches you stays consistently good.

I leave out anything I wouldn't feel comfortable using on my own family. Our young granddaughter already has her own favourite soap in the bathroom.
I stand behind every single bar. I made it myself, and I know exactly what's in it.
What you're really bringing into your home
When you choose something handmade from a small farm, you're not just buying a bar of soap. You're getting a whole range of things made the same careful way.
A lip balm made for lips that need real protection, not just a nice smell.
A healing salve for the sun burn, bee stings and small cuts that everyday life brings.
An eczema salve to soothe your irritated skin.
A foot salve to calm your cracked heels.
A natural deodorant made without the ingredients you'd rather avoid.
A hand lotion rich enough for hands that spend real time outdoors or in water.
Each one is made by someone who is genuinely reachable if you have a question. Each one comes from animals and land that are cared for properly. Each one turns a small daily ritual into something a little more considered than reaching for the supermarket shelf. And each purchase supports a small New Zealand farm.
Handmade was never about perfection for me. It's about trust. It means trusting that the person who made it cared enough to do it properly. You'll notice the difference the first time you use it.
Thank you for letting Blue Spur Milk and Honey be part of your everyday rituals.
From our farm to your home,
Miriam
